Jacobi de Villiers brings a rich and diverse musical background, spanning opera, classical, cabaret, and traditional genres. Recognized as a "consistent powerhouse voice and presence on stage" (Rafiek Mammon
Cape Argus), she has performed extensively with Cape Town Opera's
Vocal Ensemble in productions such as Porgy & Bess, Mandela Trilogy,
and Showboat. Her operatic roles include Flora in La Traviata, Marcellina in The Marriage of Figaro, and Tisbe in La Cenerentola. Jacobi's
international experience includes performing in the William Kentridge
production Refuse the Hour in Paris, Vienna, and Hamburg. A sought-
after soloist, she regularly features in oratorios like Handel's Messiah and
recently worked as an International Voice Teacher in Maputo, teaching
soloists and performing with the Xiquitsi Classical Music Program. Her
passion for storytelling through music extends to her own productions,
such as Koffer in Berlyn and Poskaarte uit Parys, which garnered acclaim at the KKNK and Woordfees. With a Master's in Drama from Stellenbosch University and a post-graduate diploma in Opera Performance (distinction) from the University of Cape Town, Jacobi integrates her interdisciplinary expertise into her teaching and performances. At Reddam House Durbanville, she has developed a vibrant curriculum for early learners, incorporating innovative methods like the Kodály approach, storytelling, and imaginative play with puppets and props. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes creating joyful, engaging, and meaningful musical experiences.
